Saul Looks at David with Suspicion

And it happened as they were coming, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, that (A)the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with gladness, and with [a]musical instruments. And the women (B)sang as they [b]were merry and said,

(C)Saul has struck his thousands,
(D)And David his ten thousands.”

Then Saul became very angry, for this saying was [c]displeasing in his eyes; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now (E)what more can he have but the kingdom?”
